Berlin is a great destination for learning German.
There is probably no other city in Germany with so many language schools to pick from.
Depending on your preference you can pick schools with small classes (more intense) or with bigger classes (more fun).
Another big factor in choosing the best language school in Berlin will be the costs for a German course. In general the smaller the classes and the more intense the course the more expensive it will get.
And finally you might want to choose a language school close to where you stay.
Otherwise you are missing out on going out after classes with your classmates and practice what you just learned in a Berlin bar.
We have heard many good things about Kapitel Zwei at Schicklerstrasse.
If you want to quickly improve your German so that you can at least order in restaurants and bars in German and understand the most important German words you should consider a 4 weeks intensive course in a group of 5-11 people.
Depending on if you are working in the mornings or evenings or if you are completely flexible you can choose when you want to spend your 3h at school between 9am and 9pm.
Whether you want to improve your Grammar or you want to improve your conversational skills there are plenty of courses to choose from.
Another very centrally located language school with years of experience is GLS – German Language School. GLS offers courses both for adults as well as for young people.
GLS offers a wide variety of German language courses – ranging from specially designed courses for business people to TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache).
What sets GLS apart from other language schools is that their school is offering on campus accomodation as well as daily after class activities.
So if you don’t know anybody in Berlin yet this is a great way to learn German and make new friends.

What if you finished school and university and feel like that 15 years of schools are enough and you don’t feel like signing up with a German language school?
The most obvious solution of course is to have German partner or to surround yourself with as many German friends as possible.
But this is not as easy as it sounds as Berlin is full of international students and people. Whereever you go you can easily get along just with English.
Another idea would be to look online for “Sprachtandem”, which means that you meet up with a German person and one week you speak only in German and the other week you teach her/him your language.
There are many of those groups on Facebook and other online forums, just search for Sprachtandem.
